Bohinj, located in the Julian Alps in Northwest Slovenia, is one of the most beautiful places ever found, as confirmed by a popular legend:
“God was giving land to people and, as he finished, he realized that he had forgotten about a small group of people, who were silent and did not insist like the others. Because of their modesty and patience, he felt pity for them. That is why he decided to give them the most beautiful land of all, which he had set aside for himself. It is called Bohinj, because we call God Boh.”
Follow the road from Bled towards Southwest, alongside with the river Sava Bohinjska. When the Bohinj valley opens up at Stara Fužina, you have Lake Bohinj in front of you. On the oposite side, 20 km towards West, the river Sava Bohinjska enters the river from the spectacular waterfall, Slap Savica. The area is within Triglav National Park; one of the oldest in Europe. The lake is very deap with rather cold water. It is 5 km wide. Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia (2864 m MSL), is located North of the lake together with the popular Vogar area. In the south lays Vogel that is convniently reached by cabel car.
Historically, the area was isolated with maintained traditional lifestyle and own Slovenian dialect. Nowadays, it is popular for tourism, summer and winter sports and a perfect place to get som rest in a spectacular environment. For a photographer, the are offers endless great opportunities.
