The landscape in northern Norway is one of our favourites. The goal of this visit was to visit the southern parts of Lofoten together with our friends from US, which we missed when we were in Lofoten in 2019. It is Reine and Å villages that are considered the “typical” Lofoten.

We also managed a return visit to Nyksund, the old abandoned fishing village that has become a popular tourist destination. Much has changed in Nyksund in the five years since we were last here. The tourism industry has developed, but some of the former charm has been lost.

According to tradition, fish is dried on large wooden racks. Most of the fish were already taken care of, but we found a few places where the fish were still hanging out to dry. One man told us that the dried fish heads had become a major export product to Africa where it was considered an important source of protein.

Lofoten’s magnificent nature attracts many visitors. Some choose to stay permanently, which applies not least to artists. On this trip we were fascinated by the glass art that adorned the rocks.
